Frequently Asked Questions

Anyone who needs mental health support. The Link is open to people of all ages—youth, adults, seniors—and you don’t have to live in a specific area. We welcome everyone, whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, stress, or any mental health challenge. Parents can accompany children or teens, but minors can also come on their own if they need help (we’ll simply involve a guardian as appropriate for ongoing care). There are no eligibility requirements. Insured or uninsured, any background, you will be helped.
No. Our services are completely free. You will not be charged, and we do not require insurance. The Link is funded by a non-profit foundation and generous donors, so cost will never be a barrier for you.
No appointment, referral, or call ahead is needed. We operate on a walk-in basis. Simply come during our open hours, and we’ll see you on a first-come, first-served basis (no long waits typically). If someone referred you, that’s fine too, but you can just walk in on your own.
Both The Link locations are open every Wednesday from 4 PM to 7 PM. We know those times might not fit everyone’s schedule, so we are working hard to add more days and locations. If you need help outside our hours, please call 988 for 24/7 support.
When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by someone from our team. They’ll have you fill out a very short form just to get basic info (no lengthy paperwork). You’ll then meet privately with a counselor in a comfortable, quiet room. The counselor will ask what brings you in and how you’re feeling. You can share as much or as little as you want. We’re here to listen and support, not judge. Sessions usually last around 45 minutes. The counselor might give you some coping tips, and you’ll work together on a plan. That could mean coming back next time, connecting you with a longer-term therapist, or any resources that could help.
Yes, absolutely. Anything you share with our counselors is confidential. We do not disclose your visit or your personal information to anyone outside The Link’s professional team. The only exception is if there’s a serious safety concern (like you or someone else is in danger). In that case, we follow professional guidelines to ensure safety (which could involve emergency services). But otherwise, you can even use a nickname if that makes you more comfortable. We want you to feel safe opening up.
Yes. If having someone with you helps you feel comfortable, they are welcome. A friend or family member can wait in our sitting area or even join the session if you want them to (it’s your choice). We just ask that only the person needing help fills the form and consents to services. Many people bring a support person, and that’s perfectly fine.
Anything that’s bothering you. Common reasons people come to The Link include feelings of depression or hopelessness, anxiety or panic, suicidal thoughts, overwhelming stress, grief after losing someone, family or relationship problems, or even just “I don’t feel right and I don’t know why.” There’s no wrong reason to seek help. If it’s affecting your well-being, it matters. Our counselors are trained in a range of issues and will work with whatever you want to discuss.
Not necessarily. Since we operate as a drop-in clinic, you’ll meet with whoever is on staff that day. All our counselors are qualified and share the same compassionate approach, so you’ll be in good hands each visit. If you continue to come back regularly, you might see some familiar faces, but we cannot guarantee the same person each time. If consistency is important to you, we can help refer you to an ongoing counseling service in the area.
We’re glad you asked! The Link thrives on community support. You can help by making a donation (every dollar helps keep our services free) or by volunteering if opportunities are available (we often need help with outreach, events, or just spreading the word). Even simply telling others about The Link – so those who need us hear about us – is a big help.
Have another question? Feel free to contact us. We’ll be happy to answer. If you have an urgent question about our services, you can visit us during open hours.
